The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refuted claims circulating in the media that the arrest of social media personality Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), was due to multiple petitions from various individuals.

In a statement posted on its official Facebook page on Monday, the Commission labeled the report—originally published by BBC News Pidgin—as false, urging the public to disregard the information.

According to the BBC News Pidgin article, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale allegedly confirmed VDM’s arrest and stated that he would be released upon meeting bail conditions, with the case expected to proceed to court.

The report also claimed that the arrest stemmed from allegations outlined in several petitions submitted by members of the public.

However, the EFCC has now discredited the remarks attributed to its spokesperson, categorizing the report as misinformation and labeling it as fake news.
