The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of 93 youths suspected of involvement in internet fraud in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The arrests were made during a midnight raid carried out in the early hours of Sunday at a party tagged Wet & Rave Splash Extravaganza, held at the OOPL Rounda fun spot.
A viral video circulating online showed partygoers fleeing the venue as EFCC operatives stormed the area.
The Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, Vitalis Ortese, acknowledged the incident but provided limited details, saying: “Yes, they did. There was an incident this morning. We will find out and let you know.”
Confirming the operation in a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the EFCC said the raid was conducted by operatives from its Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, based on credible intelligence linking the suspects to alleged cybercrime activities.
The commission also disclosed that 18 vehicles and several mobile devices were recovered during the operation, adding that the suspects would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
In a related development, the EFCC had earlier announced the arrest of 56 suspected internet fraudsters, including one key suspect, during a raid on K-Hotel in the Itori area of Ewekoro, Ogun State. That operation was carried out last Wednesday by operatives of the Ibadan Zonal Directorate.
Recovered items included two locally made pistols, six luxury vehicles, 89 mobile phones, laptops, and several incriminating documents.
