The Edo State Government has formally communicated with governor-elect Senator Monday Okpebholo, requesting the establishment of his transition team to engage with the outgoing administration’s team.
In a letter dated October 10, 2024, Joseph Eboigbe, the Secretary to the State Government, highlighted the importance of forming this team to facilitate productive discussions and the exchange of essential information.
This initiative aims to ensure a smooth transfer of power and maintain continuity in governance, the state government said.

It would be recalled that Okpebholo of the APC defeated the incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki’s candidate, Mr Asue Ighodalo of the PDP in the September election.
It was gathered that in July, Governor Godwin Obaseki inaugurated a 20-member transition committee, chaired by Eboigbe, who served as his Special Adviser on Finance. This committee is tasked with overseeing the transition process.
The letter conveyed: “I hope this message finds you well. As we prepare for the transition of power, it is crucial to establish effective collaboration between your team and our current administration.
“To facilitate this process, we invite you and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to initiate the formation of your transition team at your earliest convenience.
“The establishment of this team will allow us to engage in meaningful discussions and share vital information, ensuring a seamless transfer of responsibilities and continuity of governance.”
Eboigbe assured Okpebholo of the government’s commitment to providing the necessary support and resources for an efficient transition, proposing October 14, 2024, for the inaugural meeting of both Transition Committees.
He concluded, “We look forward to your prompt response and to working closely together in the coming weeks. Together, we can lay a strong foundation for a successful administration that meets the expectations of our constituents. Thank you for your attention.”
As of now, the APC and Okpebholo have not publicly responded to the request regarding their intentions to comply.
