RESULTS FROM 17 LGAs: APC 244,549, PDP 220,892
All Progressive Congress’ Sen Monday Okpebholo is set to be the winner of the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday.
The APC’s candidate has now taken an unassailable lead of 54,437 after the release of result from 17 of 18 LGAs.
He has a total of 275,329, while Asue Ighodalo of the PDP has so far garnered 220,892 votes.
The two leading candidates comfortably won their LGAs, with Okpebholo winning his Esan Central LGA with 10,990 to Ighodalo’s 8,618 votes. The latter also triumphed in his Esan South East amassing 14,199 votes to Okpebholo’s 8,380 in the LGA.
The results released by the Returning Officer also showed that the PDP has won seven LGAs compared to 10 by the APC.
The possibility of a run-off seems slim as the two frontrunners have so far won the mandatory 25% in the 16 LGAs declared so far.
To win the election, a candidate must not only score the highest number of votes, but also has to score 25% in 2/3 of the 18 LGAs.
Meanwhile, PDP agent has rejected most of the results declared so far, particularly those of Akoko-Edo and other parts of the North district, citing ‘manufactured figures and non-usage of the BVAS machine.
