A fresh twist has emerged in the unending leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday, as reports emerged that the police have withdrawn security details to the Speaker, Rt Hon Mojisola Meranda.

The development was confirmed by the Senior Special Assistant to Meranda on Media, Ganzallo Victor, who raised the alarm about the safety of the state’s Number 3 citizen.

Ganzallo, in a statement, said the Speaker and House of Assembly are vulnerable with the development.

It would be recalled that Meranda emerged after the former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa was impeached while outside the country.

Obasa’s fall followed a growing face-off with the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, whom he kept waiting for more than three hours during the state’s 2025 budget presentation.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other leaders of the All Progressive Party, APC, waded into the matter to find a common ground between the warring parties.

Part of the resolution of the various peace meetings, including those by the Governor Advisory Council, GAC, and former governors of Osun and Ogun state, Bisi Akande and Olusegun Osoba respectively, included Obasa being allowed to formally resign.

Meranda was also expected to resign to pave the way for an independent member of the assembly, who must hail from Lagos West, to assume the position.

It could not be independently confirmed if the withdrawal of Meranda’s security was part of the plot for a new leadership for the party.
