Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have apprehended a suspected kidnapper, Sanusi Abdulahi, who was found in possession of N5 million—believed to be part of a ransom payment from a recent abduction.
Police spokesperson DSP Bright Edafe confirmed the arrest in a statement made available to newsmen in Asaba on Tuesday.
According to Edafe, Abdulahi was arrested on July 12, 2025, around 6:30 a.m.
Following his arrest, Abdulahi reportedly led officers to the gang’s hideouts in the Second Deputy and Oko areas of Asaba, where four other suspected members of the kidnapping syndicate were also taken into custody.
Preliminary investigations suggest the group is behind a series of kidnappings in Ibusa, Ogwashi-Ukwu, Obulu-Okiti, Isele-Ukwu, and Isele-Asagba. Their most recent alleged crime was the abduction of a young woman in Ogwashi-Ukwu on July 9, 2025.
DSP Edafe noted that investigations are ongoing.
