Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested 12 suspects and recovered a cache of dangerous weapons and illicit drugs in two separate intelligence-led operations carried out within the state.
The first arrest was made on January 22, 2026, at about 4:10 p.m., when operatives of the command’s Buffalo Patrol Team, during a routine stop-and-search at the Head Bridge boundary between Anambra and Delta states, intercepted a green Toyota Sienna travelling from Anambra into Delta State. The occupants of the vehicle, all dressed in mufti, claimed they were on their way to Delta State to welcome a visiting religious leader.
A detailed search of the vehicle, however, revealed concealed weapons, including three pump-action guns, one locally fabricated dane gun, a battle axe and 26 live cartridges. Six suspects were arrested in connection with the discovery and were identified as Nwanlioba Ikechukwu Dominic, 62; Agbata Mathew, 35; Osita Chineye, 39; Favour Peterson, 23; Prince Tochukwu, 32; and Clement Nwakwa, 51.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Bright Edafe, confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and that investigations are ongoing to determine the source and intended use of the weapons.
In a related operation, police operatives attached to the Ugborikoko Division, acting on credible and actionable intelligence, uncovered an organised drug syndicate operating within the community. The operation was carried out on January 20, 2026, at about 10:00 a.m., under the supervision of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Setemi Agbede-Zoukumor.
Police sources said a suspected drug dealer was initially arrested during the operation and later provided vital information that enabled operatives to trace and arrest six additional suspects believed to be key players in the drug distribution network. The suspects were identified as Daniel Ojukwu, Rose Otofi, Osaro Okosu, Maro Ibecham, Fregene Victory and Kevwe Irimoni.
Searches conducted at their respective residences led to the recovery of a large quantity of hard drugs and paraphernalia, including packs of Indian hemp, Canadian loud, Kolorado, Swinol, Tramadol tablets and crushers suspected to have been used for drug processing and resale.
Edafe said investigations into both cases are continuing, adding that the Delta State Police Command remains committed to sustaining intelligence-driven operations aimed at curbing the proliferation of illegal weapons and the spread of illicit drugs across the state.
