The Central Bank of Nigeria has dismissed as false a viral image circulating on social media that purports to show a newly introduced N5,000 banknote.

The image, widely shared online, allegedly depicts a redesigned currency note bearing the image of President Bola Tinubu, sparking widespread reactions and debates over its authenticity.

Responding to the claim, the apex bank refuted the report in a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, stating, “This content is fake. Let the public be guided.”

The clarification comes amid growing speculation fueled by the viral post, with many social media users expressing mixed reactions over the supposed introduction of a higher denomination note.

The CBN also recalled a similar incident in 2025 when it debunked reports claiming the introduction of N5,000 and N10,000 banknotes to ease cash transactions, reiterating that such claims were entirely false.

The bank urged the public to disregard unverified information and rely only on official communication channels for accurate updates on monetary policies and currency matters.
