Former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (rtd), has strongly condemned the actions of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, describing his verbal attack on a uniformed military officer as a grave threat to national security and institutional integrity.
Buratai, in a statement on Tuesday, said Wike’s public disparagement of an officer of the Nigerian Armed Forces on November 11, 2025, went beyond misconduct and amounted to “a reckless endangerment of national order.”
He stated that the minister’s outburst represented an act of profound indiscipline that undermines the military chain of command, disrespects the authority of the Commander-in-Chief, and damages the morale of the Armed Forces.
“A minister’s verbal assault on a uniformed officer is not a trivial political episode—it strikes at the core of our national security structure,” Buratai warned. “Such behaviour erodes the foundation of discipline upon which our security institutions rest.”
Calling for accountability, Buratai demanded that Wike issue an immediate and unreserved public apology to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Armed Forces of Nigeria, and the officer involved.
“Our nation’s security must come first,” he said. “It is time for decisive action, not the politics of military intimidation. The integrity of our Armed Forces demands nothing less.”
