Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has announced a cash reward of $1.5 million for Nigeria’s Super Eagles if they emerge champions of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Rabiu disclosed that the team would receive an immediate $500,000 bonus if they win their semi-final match and qualify for the final, with an additional $1 million pledged should they go on to lift the trophy on Sunday.

The billionaire industrialist announced on Saturday via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, shortly after Nigeria’s 2–0 victory over Algeria in the quarter-finals of the tournament.

The win, secured in Marrakech, earned the Super Eagles a semi-final showdown against host nation Morocco, scheduled for Wednesday.

Congratulating the players on what he described as a brilliant performance, Rabiu praised the team for inspiring Nigerians at home and in the diaspora. He added that to further motivate the players, he would reward them with $50,000 for every goal scored in the semi-final, in addition to the $500,000 bonus.

Rabiu also promised a bigger incentive if the team goes all the way, pledging $1 million for winning the final, along with $100,000 for each goal scored in the decisive match.

President Bola Tinubu also applauded the Super Eagles for their quarter-final victory and qualification for the semi-finals. In a post on his official X handle, @officialABAT, the President praised the team’s display and assured them of national support, describing the performance as brilliant and inspiring.

Nigeria’s victory over Algeria was sealed by second-half goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams, extending the Super Eagles’ unbeaten run in the competition to five matches with a perfect record.

The Super Eagles are now aiming for a fourth AFCON title as they prepare to face Morocco in a high-stakes semi-final encounter.

The team had earlier raised concerns over unpaid bonuses, with reports of possible disruption to preparations ahead of the quarter-final match. However, the issue was promptly resolved by the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Nigeria. Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, later confirmed that President Tinubu had approved the Super Eagles’ entire AFCON 2025 budget on November 14, 2025, aligning all stakeholders, including the National Sports Commission, the Nigeria Football Federation, and the players.
