The Brigade Commander of the Joint Task Force in Benesheikh, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State, Brigadier-General O. Braimah, has reportedly been killed in an attack by Boko Haram insurgents.

Sources said the attack occurred last Thursday night when heavily armed insurgents stormed the military formation in large numbers, leading to a fierce confrontation. Several of the attackers were also said to have been killed during the exchange.

A local resident, Mallam Lawa Benesheikh, disclosed the development in a social media post, expressing grief over the incident.

“Innalillahi wa Inna’illaihin raji’un. Boko Haram has again, unfortunately, succeeded in eliminating the commanding officer of Benesheikh. This unfortunate incident occurred last night when insurgents stormed the military formation in numbers. May the souls of the fallen heroes rest in peace,” he wrote.

The Chairman of Kaga Local Government Area, Hon. Zanna Ajimi, confirmed the incident, stating that the brigade commander was among those killed in the attack.

“Yes, we just left the military base now, and I can confirm to you that the brigade commander is among the casualties,” Ajimi said.

The attack highlights the persistent security challenges in Borno State, despite ongoing military efforts to curb insurgency in the region.
