Ruth Otabor, the sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, has sadly passed away.
Her death was confirmed in an official statement released on Sunday bEko Solicitors & Advocates on behalf of the Otabor family. The statement was shared by Phyna via her Instagram account.
According to the announcement, Ruth died at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2025.
“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st Day of August, 2025, at about 06:30Hrs,” the statement read.
The family has appealed for privacy during this difficult time as they mourn their loss.“
The family is presently grieving and would appreciate being given a private moment to mourn the departed.
The funeral arrangements will be communicated to the public in due course,” the statement added.
Ruth’s passing comes just weeks after she was involved in a tragic accident.
On August 13, 2025, she was struck by a Dangote Group truck near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State. The impact severely crushed her leg, which later had to be amputated. Witnesses at the scene reported that the vehicle was eventually brought to a halt by a bystander.
Tragically, the accident occurred only six days after Ruth had graduated from Auchi Polytechnic, marking what should have been the beginning of a new chapter in her life.
Her sudden passing has left her family, friends, and well-wishers in deep shock and sorrow.
