The plot to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election gathered momentum on Thursday with the birth of a ‘coalition of opposition’ ahead of 2027.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja on Thursday, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar announced that several members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and other opposition leaders are ganging up against the former Lagos State governor.

Atiku told newsmen, “Yes, this is the birth of the coalition of opposition ahead of 2027.”

The 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi, who was announced as a member of the coalition was represented by Alhaji Yunusa Tanko.

Prominent members of the coalition present at the event include former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who recently decamped from the ruling APC to SDP, as well as a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal and convener of the Alternative, Segun Showumi, a prominent member of the PDP.

Also present were the National Secretary of the Coalition of United Political Parties, Peter Ahmeh, and the Convenor of the Alternative, Segun Showunmi, among others, while former Rivers and Ekiti states governors, Rotimi Amaechi and Kayode Fayemi reportedly sent their apologies.

A former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Adamu, who failed to install Ahmed Lawan as the party’s secretary in 2023, was announced as a member of the new tag team.
