Agugu Anioma (Odi Anyi Mma), a socio-political movement advocating the collective progress of the Anioma people, has formally endorsed Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa for the Senate, citing his record of service, integrity, and leadership credentials.
The endorsement was announced on January 5, 2026, in Ukala by the group’s Convener, Hon. Louis Ogugua Ndukwe, who said the decision followed wide consultations with key stakeholders across Anioma land. He said traditional rulers, youths, women groups, artisans, market women, civil society actors, and professionals were engaged before the group settled on Senator Okowa as its preferred candidate.
Ndukwe said the group was persuaded by Okowa’s performance both in the National Assembly and during his tenure as Governor of Delta State, describing him as a leader with verifiable achievements and a clear vision for development. He added that Agugu Anioma would mobilise support across wards, local government areas, and communities to ensure electoral success.
Senator Okowa, a medical doctor, served as Governor of Delta State from 2015 to 2023. During his administration, the state witnessed extensive infrastructure development, particularly in road construction and urban renewal, earning him the sobriquet “Roadmaster.” His government also positioned Delta as the first state in Nigeria to achieve Universal Health Coverage, expanding access to healthcare services.
In the education sector, Okowa’s administration focused on school rehabilitation, technical education, and youth empowerment through skills acquisition and economic inclusion programmes, initiatives credited with improving livelihoods across the state.
Beyond his time as governor, Okowa currently serves as Coordinator of the South South Renewed Hope Initiative Committees, a role that underscores his continued political relevance and grassroots mobilisation across the region.
Ndukwe said the endorsement was based on substance rather than sentiment, stressing that Okowa has consistently demonstrated commitment to the interests of Anioma people and would provide effective representation in the Senate.
The endorsement event was attended by party leaders, community stakeholders, and supporters drawn from across the Anioma axis.
Agugu Anioma expressed confidence that Okowa’s experience and national stature would translate into stronger legislative advocacy for Anioma and Delta State, urging residents and supporters to rally behind his senatorial bid in the interest of continuity and credible leadership.
