The Chairman of the Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Hamza Bello, has resigned from his position and the party alongside other members of the State Executive Council and the 21 local government PDP chairmen in the state.
The mass resignation was announced on Friday evening during a press briefing at the party’s secretariat in Yola, coming just hours after Governor Ahmadu Fintiri declared his defection earlier in the day.
Addressing journalists, Bello said the decision was taken in the best interest of Adamawa State, noting that the move was aimed at aligning with the political direction of Governor Fintiri and ensuring stability in the state’s political landscape.
He explained that the state executive members resolved to follow the governor’s lead in order to foster unity and reposition the state politically.
Before the resignation of the state exco, several key government officials, including commissioners, special advisers, and 14 of the 21 local government chairmen, had already announced their exit from the PDP.
The defecting officials cited internal divisions and ongoing legal disputes at the national level within the party as reasons for their decision. They also expressed their intention to align with the Federal Government and support the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
