The Nigerian Immigration Services, NIS, has confirmed the arrest of a cross-dresser and controversial ex-jailbird, Mr Idris Okuneye (aka Bobrisky) at the Seme Border.
Bobrisky, who was recently released from prison after serving a jail term for abuse of the Nigerian naira and other offences, was arrested while allegedly trying to sneak out of the country via the Nigeria/Republic of Benin border at Seme
A statement signed by Deputy Controller of Immigration, DCI, KT Udo, described him as a person of interest over recent issues of public concern.
The statement was titled: NIGERIA IMMIGRATION SERVICE INTERCEPTS IDRIS OKUNEYE (BOBRISKY) AT SEME BORDER WHILST ATTEMPTING TO FLEE THE COUNTRY.
It read in part, “In keeping with its commitment to securing the borders, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) intercepted Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju otherwise known as Bobrisky at the Seme Border over an attempt to exit the Country.
“The Service wishes to inform the public that OKUNEYE IDRIS is a person of interest over recent issues of public concern. He is undergoing interrogation and will be handed over to the appropriate Authorities for further action.”
DCI Udo said the service assured Nigerians that it will continue to be civil and professional in its statutory responsibility of manning the country’s border.
Okuneye’s arrest on Monday is the latest in a long list of controversies that have dogged the self-acclaimed socialite in recent times after he was arrested and convicted for naira abuse.
Shortly after completing his jail term, he courted fresh controversy with his alleged claim that he was sequestered from the regular prison after doling out N4m to prison officials, who kept him in a posh residential apartment.
Shortly before his arrest, the investigative panel set up by the Federal Government had dismissed allegations that Bobrisky, who was sentenced to six months in jail, lived in a flat outside prison and didn’t serve her full term.
The panel however confirmed that although he was kept in a male cell, he did receive preferential treatment.
