Yusuf Buhari, the only son of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has formally declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.
In a letter dated April 3, 2026, personally signed by him, Yusuf—also known as Talban Daura—announced his ambition to represent the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency in Katsina State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
He stated that his decision followed extensive consultations and was driven by a desire to contribute to quality leadership and development in the constituency. Yusuf appealed for support, pledging to focus on infrastructural growth as well as human capital development if elected.
His declaration comes barely a week after stakeholders of the APC in Sandamu Local Government Area endorsed him as their preferred candidate for the seat. The endorsement was reached during a high-level meeting at the local government secretariat attended by elected officials and political appointees from across the constituency.
Speaking at the meeting, the council chairman, Usman Na-Lado, described the decision as a collective resolution by party stakeholders, citing Yusuf’s perceived capacity and growing acceptance within the party.
Na-Lado also disclosed that the gathering reaffirmed support for President Bola Tinubu and Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda as the APC’s preferred candidates for the presidency and governorship, respectively, in the 2027 elections.
Party sources further indicated that Yusuf Buhari’s endorsement may have the backing of the state government, with one source alleging that he is Governor Radda’s preferred candidate for the constituency.
