The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party has announced plans to commence a nationwide digital membership registration on Monday as part of its build-up to the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the party said the three-week exercise is designed to expand its support base, strengthen grassroots structures, and mobilise new members across the country ahead of the polls.
The development follows recent adjustments to the 2027 election timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission. Initially, the commission had scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for February 20, 2027, with governorship and state Houses of Assembly polls fixed for March 6, 2027.
However, an amendment to Clause 28 of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill by the Senate reduced the mandatory notice period for elections from 360 days to 300 days, paving the way for a revised timetable. INEC subsequently rescheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections to January 16, 2027, while governorship and state assembly elections were moved to February 6, 2027.
Under the updated schedule, political parties are required to submit a comprehensive digital membership register by April 2, 2026 — a requirement that some stakeholders argue could pose challenges for opposition parties.
Reacting to the new deadline, the Turaki-led PDP National Working Committee said it had authorised the immediate rollout of digital membership registration across all wards in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the statement, the exercise will run from Monday, March 2, 2026, for three weeks and will be conducted daily, except Sundays, at ward, chapter, and state offices of the party. Special cases, it added, would be handled at the party’s National Secretariat.
The party also disclosed that a special committee headed by the National Organising Secretary, Hon. Theophilus Daka Shan, has been constituted to supervise the process and address any complaints arising from the exercise.
It urged members and interested Nigerians to visit the nearest PDP office in their wards to complete their registration.
