Justice Osho Adebiyi of an FCT High Court in Abuja has sentenced a 19-year-old teacher, Abdullahi Abbass, to life imprisonment for raping his nine-year-old pupil in the Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.

In a statement issued on Saturday by NAPTIP’s National Press Officer, Vincent Adekoye, the agency described the ruling as a major step forward in the fight against sexual violence in Nigeria.

Abbass, who taught at a well-known school in Kwali, was found guilty of luring and raping the boy on March 19, 2025. After school hours, he reportedly sent another pupil to bring the victim from home before assaulting him through the anus.

Despite threats from the teacher, the child told his mother, who reported the incident to the police. Abbass was later arrested, and the case was transferred to NAPTIP for prosecution.

He was charged with rape and sexual abuse under the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015, and convicted on October 29, 2025.

NAPTIP’s Director General, Binta Bello, hailed the judgment, saying it would serve as a deterrent to others. “This landmark ruling reflects our commitment to fighting domestic and sexual violence. His name will also be entered in the Sex Offenders Register,” she said.
