A quiet community in Florida is reeling after a tragic double murder in which authorities say 14-year-old Trevor Lee shot and killed his parents during a late-night domestic dispute. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred shortly after midnight on August 4, 2025.

According to police, Trevor Lee called 911 from a nearby church, calmly telling the dispatcher, “I just killed my parents,” and requesting prayers as he waited for officers. He explained that he had thrown his backpack aside, emptied his pockets, and was sitting in the middle of the church. The dispatcher responded, “I’ll definitely be praying for you, son.”

Deputies quickly located Trevor Lee at the church and took him into custody without incident. When officers arrived at the family’s residence, they found 44-year-old David Lee and 45-year-old Brandi Smith dead from gunshot wounds. Investigators believe the firearm used belonged to the family and was recovered at the scene.

Sheriff Michelle Cook said the shooting appeared to be the result of a domestic argument late Sunday night and stressed there was no ongoing threat to the public. She expressed condolences to those affected, calling it “one of the most heartbreaking incidents” her office has encountered.

Trevor Lee has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder. Detectives are reviewing his mental health history, school records, and background in an effort to determine what led to the deadly confrontation. Loved ones and neighbors have expressed shock, describing Trevor as a good student and his family as close-knit and well-regarded in the community.

The investigation into the Middleburg double murder remains active, and authorities have urged anyone with information to contact the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
